Budapest is a city that feels like 2 cities because at one point it was. Buda is the historical side of the Danube River in the hills and is more touristy compared to the cheaper, flatter, more commercial Pest side. Pest is a place that normal people live their lives and it's been great staying here. Coincidently I reserved an apartment rather than a hotel. I bought groceries and did laundry and took a nap but it's also full of shops and restaurants and people out enjoying themselves.
When I travel I consider what it might be like to live in such a place. While I have a nice house in the suburbs back home, I do wish that I lived in a more lively, urban, place for a single bachelor to go out instead of sitting on the sofa playing video games. This area is precisely that. It's a shame Denver doesn't have anything similar and even if it did, would cost 5 times as much.
Were Hungarian not the most difficult language to learn (no exaggeration), I could envision myself making it home for a while anyway. At least I can pretend to be a resident for a few more days.
